Semen ejaculates do not usually consist of enough volume to allow for the preparation of multiple insemination doses.  The addition of extender to the semen ejaculated will add volume for dilution and enhances sperm cell survival during storage.  Although all extenders have the same function, it is important to check which extender a particular stallion prefers, as conception rates can decrease when the stallion and extender are incompatible.

Semen shippers are an integral component of successful breeding programs.  Temperature fluctuations while in transit can compromise the quality of the semen sample and can undo all the work put into shipping an optimal semen dose and preparing the mare for a successful breeding.
