The DVM Rapid Test™ is a small portable spectrophotometer which has been calibrated to measure sperm concentration in raw [neat] semen and IgG levels in serum/plasma or colostrum of several species. A standard is included for the unit to 'self-zero'. An LED light source is used and the machine is powered by three AA batteries. Sperm concentration measurements take less than one minute, while the IgG assays require an incubation period of 10 minutes. Testing is simple, and the mini pipettors, cuvettes, reagent and instructions are included with purchase of the unit.

The Nucleocounter SP-100™ is the new 'gold standard' for measurement of sperm concentration in raw [neat] ejeculates or in extended semen.  A fluorescent dye is used to automatically label the DNA of the sperm during casette loading.  The instrument identifies and counts the sperm by identifying fluorescent DNA. Accuracy and repeatability of measurements are similar to that of flow cytometers.
